Living Room & Fireplace Refresh
While much of this 1980s Medina Contemporary had already been updated, the living room was ready for renewal. The space originally featured wall-to-wall carpeting and a tiered fireplace surround clad in dark granite that felt heavy and dated.
To create a sense of warmth and continuity, new oak flooring in a rich espresso finish now connects the living room to the home’s entry and adjoining spaces. The redesigned fireplace draws inspiration from a chamfered detail found in the family room, establishing a subtle architectural dialogue between the two. A slab of Sandalus Quartzite was selected for its organic texture and tonal depth, bringing a grounded elegance to the room’s focal point. A new gas insert provides a more generous flame-viewing area and was positioned forward within the firebox to enhance its presence in the space. Finally, a silk-and-wool rug in a soft mushroom hue from Driscoll Robbins anchors the seating area, introducing quiet luxury and inviting comfort.
