Laurelhurst Midcentury
A project spanning many years, we’ve touched nearly every surface of this home, both inside and out. It began by gutting the 1952 kitchen and creating a more functional space for cooking and gathering. The main floor bathroom was the second major renovation. Also original to the home, it was gutted to make way for a fresh take on midcentury design. Recently, the stairs leading to the daylight lower level were opened up by removing an awkward load-bearing wall; the zig-zag design of the new railing was inspired by a pair of floor lamps in the living room. The lower level family room offers a more bohemian vibe, with paneling preserved and offset by crisp white trim and new recessed lighting. On the entertaining deck, a collection of architectural plants and herbs bring a casual lushness, and the color yellow echoes key accents used throughout the interiors.
